Yip Seng Kopitiam @ Kuala Ampang, Ampang

The most important meal of the day is breakfast. Living almost within walking distance to a market, my first post will be one that i have regularly visited and have grown up with. The Kuala Ampang market in Ulu Klang has small wet and dry sections, and several kopitiams for breakfast to complete your morning marketing.

The one that i usually go to is the Yip Seng Kopitiam. It is the second kopitiam you will see when you walk towards the market from the football field. This kopitiam opens for breakfast and lunch, and closes every alternate Mondays. One of the signature drinks this kopitiam boasts is the Iced Lemon Tea, or 'leng cha'. Definitely thirst-quenching. There are other drinks served to like coffee, coffee-o, Milo, tea, and barley. You can have a slice or two of bread, toasted or steamed with butter or margarine, and half-boiled eggs- much like your regular breakfast but in a kopitiam environment.

Dry Pork Noodles.

The stall selling Pork Noodles has been there for many years- since i was young. The difference between her noodles and the other pork noodles is that her soup is clear, but not short of taste. Above is the dry Kuay Teow plus Loh Shu Fan noodles, tailored to my cup of tea with only minced meat and a sprinkle of lard. It looks plain, but i can assure you that it is good enough. Otherwise, you can order with the other parts of the pork too.

If you prefer something soupy, or on a cold morning, you can eat the noodles in soup. My recommendation is the Yee Mee or Kuay Teow-Mi Fun combo. You can add an egg- poached, into your breakfast meal too. The price per bowl of noodles is now RM 4.00 for small and RM 4.50 for big (large).

Dry Pan Mee noodles.

Another stall you see in this kopitiam in the morning sells a variety of food. My favourite is the Pan Mee noodles, served dry in the picture above. It comes with slices of char siew, minced meat, fried anchovies, black fungus, or fish balls- as to your liking. Remember to ask what it comes with and tell them what your preferences are. The owners of the stall are friendly and approachable.

Something else you can try here is the Pan Mee in Curry soup- i think i innovated this dish for them (inspired by another place where i had them). It is not on their menu but mixing food unlike the ordinary calls for excitement. Otherwise, stick to the menu and have the Wan Ton Noodles, Curry Mee or Ipoh Hor Fan. The price per plate is RM 4.00 for small and RM 4.50 for big.

The stalls selling breakfast might remain open for lunch if they still have stock. During lunch, there is another stall that opens which sells Chicken Rice and Chap Fan (Economy/Mixed rice). Price vary according to order.

Whether you want to have breakfast after your morning marketing, or the other way around, this kopitiam calls for a satisfying stop to fill your stomach!
