Restaurant Triple Round, Bukit Beruntung, Selangor

Image
We drove more than 45 minutes from KL to Bukit Beruntung for dinner. My family has been to the restaurant but it was my first. From the highway, we moved to dark, low-lit roads and arrived at the restaurant. The crowd at the restaurant was massive- tables were occupied, there were tour buses, customers queuing up outside, and the atmosphere was rather chaotic- plates of rice and dishes flying in the air, waiters and waitresses constantly moving, chatters from neighbouring tables. It was a Sunday night so i suppose this scenario was no surprise to a restaurant that serves good food- my brother told me that he would have two plates of rice even when we were in KL. We found a little table at the edge of the restaurant, sat and waited for our turn to place orders. It wasn't long until our food was served. Signature taufu with minced pork (RM 8). The sauce and minced pork were tasty. Taufu was ordinary. Overall, slightly above average but good starter. Came steaming hot to ou...

The Last Dredge, Batu Gajah, Perak

This post is different than usual. Why? Look on. Not wanting to travel far, i suggested to visit the 'kapal korek', Malay for dredge. It has been there for years, at least for the last five years, and to visit this Malaysian treasure was one of the many items in my 'to-do' list this year. I Google-d for information about this place and got the directions. Surprisingly, it is about 20 minutes drive from my university- i never thought it'd be this near. I followed the route through Kampung Bali and turned left at the end of the road towards Batu Gajah; my heart beat with excitement. It is a pride of Perak and a pride of our nation, a living history, our legacy. I saw it while i was driving, amazed at its great size even as i parked my car and entered the compound. The place was quiet; no crowd; everything was still and silent that i could hear my footsteps and the wind. Thoughts, imagination began to play in my mind. We were greeted by a lady who was manning t...

Restoran Kam Kitchen, Cheras, KL

Image
My mom actually Google-d for recommended restaurants nearby and she discovered this place in Cheras. We decided to try, putting our adventure caps on. The eatery sits slightly off the main road but despite it being somewhat hidden, it was crowded with people that we had to sit outside, without the air-conditioning (my mom called earlier and the recipient told her it was not necessary to book. Lesson learned: just book). We were then entertained by the waiter who we later knew is the brother of the chef. He possessed good public relation skill, recommending and taking our orders down cheerfully. Not long after, we moved inside- and breathed the cool air. The interior was plain but sufficient in design. Out came this Pumpkin Beancurd 'Taufu' (RM 12). It was special, especially with the unique pairing of these two ingredients, and it felt healthy. The 'taufu' was ok and the pumpkin sauce could make do with a little more flavour. Generally, this dish tasted light. Or...

Restoran Hao Yi Lou, Tapah Perak

Image
We found this restaurant not on purpose. But it was so good, we didn't mind and wouldn't mind to go there on purpose the next time. Initially, we wanted to have lunch at a restaurant we had previously in Kampar but we missed the turning, on a busy Friday afternoon. Then, we decided to return to a shop in Tapah, a shop we didn't go for almost two years, but it was closed. So, my dad told that on the way to Cameron Highlands from Tapah, there is a famous restaurant but he wasn't sure where or its name. We explored, hungry. Not too far from the turning to Cameron Highlands, we passed by a row of shops and i noticed one restaurant stood out. Uncertain if it was the restaurant my dad was referring to, we decided to give it a try- the crowd pulled us in, somehow, we knew the large number of customers in a restaurant may indicate that food's good. We asked the waitress to recommend some of the popular dishes and she named some. We ordered three dishes and she told us tha...
