Chateau de Versailles OR Chateau de Fontainebleau *** Near Paris, there are two UNESCO recognized chateaus, so which was the better? I know it's not ethical to compare but if you have time for only one , which will it be? Both can be reached by train.  Both have garden and palace.  Both have history. The more popular one (but not necessarily better), i would say, is the Chateau de Versailles, a symbol of the system of absolute monarchy of the Ancient Regime. Evidence: the queue to purchase the ticket and to enter the site were dauntingly long.  Seeing the line snaking on the open ground, we decided to go to the gardens first. Periodically, there are water fountains with baroque music. Well planned garden that stretches beautifully, endlessly. The canal at the far end. Yes, we explored the whole garden, on foot. Bonjour! Ca va? The first time i stepped foot on the European soil, it was the French's, and what an amazing journey it was, to  flirt  with the sites in the City of Love. I was there in the summer and frankly, for me, summer was both the best and the worst time to visit Paris. Although cooler than i expected, it was easy to stroll around while admiring the beauty of every, single detail. The day was longer so i could travel/stay in Paris until late (i was staying in Le Mee for training during the weekdays, which is about 50 minutes away by train from Paris). The bad- it was summer so the crowd at most places were massive; i spent hours just waiting in line. Worth the wait? Yes.
