My Elephant, Petaling Jaya, Selangor

Guess what this restaurant serves? Smile if you say Thai food (or smile if now you know).

Thai cuisine is popular among my family members (we enjoy almost all other cuisines we have tried) and many other Malaysians. You may find at least a shop in food court in complexes or food centers, if not a stand alone restaurant, that sells Thai food. And when Thai food is mentioned, tom yam comes to mind almost instantly.

I discovered this cozy eatery from my family. The restaurant is located in a residential-flat neighbourhood, which surprised me at my very first visit. But as i stepped through the entrance, i was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant was neat and the decor was pretty. And the crowd was large- making reservation on peak periods is recommended. As Tom Yam would be my most anticipated dish then, i walked out from the restaurant wanting more of the Green Curry Chicken instead. Now, i crave for it one more time- it is THAT delicious!

Simply mouth-watering! The gravy is thick and aromatic with the fragrant coconut milk. It has the oomph and arguably, it is the best green curry i have ever tasted in my life. The chicken pieces just complements the A plus dish. As it is known as the Gaeng Keow Wan Chicken, this is definitely a must eat from me. A hearty large portion comes at worthy RM 25.
Claims to be the best selling soup from the restaurant, Tom Som is surely a fragrant soup with a pinch of spiciness. The aroma from the clear Galangal-lemongrass-lime soup with Thai herbs sometimes shoots straight up into my nose. Not a bad thing but it means something, and that something is the richness of the ingredients used.

A perfect mix of Jasmine rice and brown rice. At RM 3 per person dine-in only, we could ask for refills without extra charges. The best combo for a meal: pour the Green Curry Chicken gravy onto the rice. Imagine its fragrance times two, its taste times four!

The ideal combo of Green Curry Chicken with rice, and the delectable Tom Som (at RM 23) soup to accompany.
Gai Tod Gratiam Prik Thai is simply translated as a yummy deep fried chicken strips dish. More like a finger food, the meat is fluffy (what an adjective to describe but it is) like pillows on a plate. I have used this expression numerous times in this post but i'll say it again- it is fragrant with its ideal blend of spices.

Bite size chicken strips comes at RM 16 per plate.

Thai teaser (or appetizer) was the Tod Man Plah, handmade deep fried fish cakes that come in 5 pieces per plate. Given the stellar tastes of the other dishes, unfortunately, this dish does not impress.

Five for RM 10.

As for drinks, their house specialty is truly recommendable, especially the Kra Chiap Cooler. A nice finish after an amazing Thai treat.

To be completely honest, the rice mixture and the Green Curry Chicken would suffice to make me come back to this restaurant for many, many times. My Elephant is one to try!
