Cendol Bakar, Kuala Selangor, Selangor

I'm almost certain that this post title caught your attention, because it sure did catch mine while i was in the car, looking through the window. We were heading towards Kuala Selangor when we saw signboards written 'Cendol Bakar Free Refill' in front of a large hut. The question popped: 'cendol bakar' as in burned cendol? We had to try so we returned later in the afternoon- the best time to have cendol is under the hot weather (that if the cendol is cold).

There were cars queuing up for the drive through service so we decided to park along the main road and eat in. The beach like hut with a mix of kampung style was packed with customers. The menu was interesting: serving VIPs to durian lovers. It was self service; we ordered the VIP cendol over the counter, waited for it to be prepared then bring the dessert to our seats. As i've said, cendol is best taken on a hot day, and with its sweet balance of coconut milk with ice, beans, nata de coco and fresh green cendol, it's paradise. Oh, the cendol is not burned or roasted or grilled but i've learned that it is actually the 'gula merah' that is roasted for better taste- and its name also relates to one of the founder of this shop. The free refill? The free drinks in front of the counter.

Break the ice and enjoy this Malaysian famous dessert. The bowl of VIP was priced at RM 2. There are other stalls around this Cendol Bakar like Chicken Rice 'Nasi Ayam', Bakso and Rojak. We had the 'Cucur Udang' and it was good snack to accompany the cendol.

Worth a stop if you're passing by.
