Sapore, Ampang, Selangor

A relatively new restaurant in Ampang, Sapore boasts with its Italian-Spanish cuisine among a competitive row of international flavoured restaurants.

I was there on a Saturday evening, anticipating authentic Italian food. The interior of the restaurant was simple but comfortable. The walls were adorned with some small, interesting pictures. Seats were limited and i was told that it can get pretty crowded during peak hours. The cellar inside made it feel more exciting.

Sometimes simple is better.

Catchy board at the entrance.

Spianata ham for starters, and have i told you that i have a thing for hams now? This was yum. Enough flavour to excite the taste buds.

Also as our starters were the Foccacia bread and Formaggi Lombardo. The homemade bread was good, eaten together with the cheese and honey.

Pasta is no stranger to the Italian cuisine, and was no surprise here. We had the Spaghetti Carbonara (foreground) and Spaghetti Bolognese (background). Between these two, my choice is the Spaghetti Carbonara (and i am usually biased towards tomato-based sauce pasta). The Carbonara sauce was creamy and foamy with egg yolk. The Bolognese was rather ordinary.

The highlight of our meal was definitely this- Suckling Piglet! The skin was cracking at every bite. The tender meat still intact. The fatty layer was surely guilty pleasure. Slow cooked and herb infused, this was worthy. Call to order ahead. Paired with wine, this would have been lovelier.

The meal we had was indeed true to its origin; ingredients were imported. The Chef came to share some insights of our food before we left. New player in Ampang, give this a try!
