Fei Fei Crab Restaurant, Kepong, KL
My family suddenly craved for crabs and we didn't know where to get delicious ones at a reasonable price. Then, my mum Googled and discovered this crab restaurant in Kepong. Concerns: it is about 30 minutes from where we live, worth it or not, and more importantly, if it will satisfy the craving. But we had to take the chances. After all, reviews from other blogs seemed favourable. So we set the location in Waze and off we went.
We found this restaurant tucked between two other restaurants, bustling with customers when we arrived. The restaurant was plain looking with yellow-clothed tables and red chairs, with air conditioning inside and open air outside. We got a table at the entrance and quick to be shown their eye-catchy menu and dish names. I would appreciate it more if they included the prices of the food; not all prices were written. Service was friendly and fast; dinner was served and i was ready to dig in.

Two Flavours Snail was delightful! Served on a yin-yang shaped plate, this dish allowed us to try the different flavours. The Butter Salted Egg Style on the right was more popular among us compared to the Kam Heong Style on the left. The thick and buttery sauce was appetizing while the Kam Heong flavour was slightly spicy. The snails were removed from the shells, making this dish easy to eat. The snails were chewy.
Great Wall Ribs was one of their signature dishes but i wasn't impressed. The meat tasted ordinary and i suggest you to eat this if you're in for a guilty pleasure- the fatty layer is irresistible. If you have to, add that extra round in your workout.
Fried Lotus Leaf Tofu in Cage may seem like a mouthful to read but simply, it was tofu served in tasty gravy on a lotus leaf in a wooden basket- i'm not sure i helped. The flavours of the gravy wasn't overwhelming, the gravy came with meat and prawns, and the tofu was soft and smooth. My only comment would be to have more tofu because i didn't take much of it.
Steamed Fish came with petai in its sauce- and hence the smell. Although i don't take petai, the sauce was surprisingly good especially with fish or rice. The sweetness of the fish was retained by its freshness.
Highlight of the night, Kam Heong Buttered Crab served in a claypot. The restaurant definitely lived up to its name as a crab restaurant and this dish surpassed my expectation. The crab was fresh and succulent. Bathed in the delicious gravy, eating it was finger-licking good. I remember writing in one of my older posts that to eat crab when you have the time and don't rush into eating it, otherwise you can't truly savour it. I took my time to peel and dig into the pincer, legs and body. The gravy, which was surprising much in the claypot, was rich in flavours, not spicy but buttery, and dipping the bread 'mantou'- the crispiness of the surface and the fluffy texture of the bread, into the gravy was the ideal combination.
Despite being a crab restaurant, i was glad to realize that the other, non-crab dishes served in this restaurant were tasty and memorable too. Now i know where i can find delicious crabs, with a wide selection of unique cooking style. This also means that i will have a problem the next time i visit this restaurant- shall i order this cooking style of crab that i know i will enjoy, or take my chances and explore the other flavours this restaurant has to offer?
