Lau Heong Seafood Restaurant, Sentul, KL
One of the reasons i set this blog up is to share good food and eats anywhere, to anyone. And knowing that my recommendations will please and satisfy others, i get the sense of a job well done. May be one day, i will be a private guide, with personally designed itineraries.
I have always wanted to do a travelogue/food guide whereby the destinations are easily accessible by public transport. And a good way to start is with this recommendation. Of course, driving there is possible, but going by LRT makes the journey more adventurous (and convenient to those who do not own a car or drive in KL).
About 10 minutes walk from the Sentul LRT Station sits this, rather, hidden gem. If you Google it, you will find posts regarding this restaurant, and it is no wonder this place is usually crowded- good food. The top floor was booked and the tables on the lower floor were occupied; we sat outside on the road after a drizzle. It was not my first time at the restaurant so i knew what to order. Surprisingly, dinner was readied quickly and soon, we were diving into our plates.
My personal favourite is the Squid and Prawn in Banana Leaf- even recalling the name now makes me salivate. The thick, viscous gravy is simply mouth-watering. It has that unique flavour, the oomph surfaces in your mouth when you mix it with rice. The squid and prawns only complemented the dish. It can be said that this is one of their signature dishes, seeing almost every table had this. A small portion is priced at RM 17.
The Fried Homemade Taufo or bean curd looks innocent on the outside but as you sink your teeth into the crispy outer layer, there you have it, the soft but springy texture that bounces with flavour. Dip it into the chili sauce or eat in plain, this dish is recommended. This delectable dish of small portion is priced at RM 8.
Nam Yu Fried Chicken is another must eat. Served hot (you can see smoke rising from the meat when you tear off the skin) and crispy, the nam yu or red fermented bean-curd taste is evident, making this dish aromatic. Priced at RM 2.60 per piece, this recommended dish is finger-licking good (true if i was using my hands to eat).
To balance our meal with a green on the table (minus the banana leaf), we ordered the Yau Mak. If you are not striking for the balance, i personally think you may forgo this dish. It is tasty, but i think there are many other options instead. RM 8 for the small portion.
For four persons, we had enough to eat, and it is reasonably priced. Just before we left, i asked for my friends' comments and their feedback was positive. I have no part in making the good food, credit is all to the chefs of the restaurant, but sharing this place i recently discovered to them, and now to you, is fulfilling. If you have tried this restaurant, share with me your say.
