Cathay Mee Stall, Ipoh, Perak

Image
Unlike my usual trip to Ipoh, my latest getaway to the city came with a different gastronomical experience- tasting the Indian food. My friend recommended this stall so i had pretty much an expectation to meet. Upon the entrance to the stall, i was greeted by the uncle in the picture frying Mee Goreng, and it looked appetizing. We got to our table and my friend ordered- three plates of Mee Goreng. People make a beeline for their lunch as i watched while waiting for our lunch to be served. It was definitely worth the wait, and my expectation was met. My plate of fried mee noodle came, as appetizing as it was seen in the wok 'kuali'. After squeezing the juice out of the lime, i stirred the noodles before diving hungrily into the star of plate. This Mee Goreng has oomph in every spoonful-a perfect balance of sweetness, saltiness, sourness and spiciness. The noodles comes with potatoes, egg, crunchy prawn fritters, and dried beancurd with bean sprout and chopped scallions. Th

SkyTrex Adventure, Taman Botani Negara, Shah Alam, Selangor

The SkyTrex Adventure motto 'Where the fun in forest never ends!' proves true in every word. I knew about this attraction over a year ago and finally, with some friends, I have undertaken the Big Thrill ride. There are three levels in SkyTrex Adventure: Little Adventure for younger kids, Big Thrill and Extreme Challenge. As a first-timer, I thought the second choice was the best. Getting there was quite difficult if you are not familiar with the Shah Alam region. At the back of my head, I thought a SkyTrex sign would be there to guide us in. But there wasn't and we ended up going up and down past the right road. Look out for the directions to Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam because there is where the adventure begins. Upon arrival at the Taman Botani, we needed to purchase our entrance ticket (reservation and payment via online through the main website) and then boarded a shuttle bus that brought us to the entrance of the SkyTrex Adventure. We registered ourselves, signed

Fish Ball Noodles, Jln TS Lanang, Melaka

Image
No, the fish ball noodles in Malacca do not taste the same as the ones in KL. There is something different about the noodle itself. It feels somewhat starchier. But I am not complaining because the ones I had tasted really good. One I would recommend opens for dinner from 5pm onwards. It is located along Jalan TS Lanang, at a shop next to the Beauty Sisters Chicken Rice Ball, and opposite Jaya 99 building. The bowl of noodles come with fish balls, fish pastes and a soup. You can choose to order dry or wet (noodles in soup). Personally, I prefer the dry style especially when I add chili sauce to redden and spice up my dinner. Dry fish ball noodles that is lip-smacking! The shop that prepares it all. The makers were laughing as I took photographs of them. If you want to add liao or ingredients like yong tau foo, you can pick from the shelf. What? Fish ball noodles Where? Along Jln TS Lanang, opposite Jaya 99 building How much? RM 3.20 (small) and RM 3.70 (large) as of

Bukit Cina Market, Melaka

Image
When visiting a market, especially a wet market, a picture comes to mind: noisy atmosphere, fishy smell, water puddles, crowd. Sometimes, you find good food for breakfast too! In Malacca, the morning market at Bukit Cina becomes animated. The food stall that I usually eat is located right next to the market area and it sells delicious dry noodles- kuay teow-mee. It has been selling for many years. Under a zinc roof, this stall gets crowded with customers and you have to wait for your turn to be served. What is so tantalizing about this food? The noodle comes along with pork and fish cake slices, but the flavour is brought out by the sauce that tastes somewhat sweet. If you can take spicy food, you must add chili sauce to your noodles and mix them up- because that will completely leave an impression. A picture of the food stall. A bowl of dry noodles. Add the chili sauce to spice up the taste to the spiciness that suits you. If dry noodle is not your cup of tea, there are othe

Beauty Sisters Chicken Rice Ball, Melaka

Whenever I head down south to Melaka, there is one food stall that I never fail to skip- and that food stall serves a must-eat in the historical city: chicken rice ball. Unlike the normal chicken rice where the rice comes scattered n a plate, this fragrant rice comes in a spherical shape- like a ball. Chicken rice ball is famous in Melaka and it is rare, may be impossible, to find this unique food in other states around Malaysia. The one I am recommending to you is the Beauty Sisters Chicken Rice Ball, located under a tree opposite the Shell petrol station in Jalan Tun Sri Lanang. Because it is located under a tree, I am used to call this place 'bawah pokok' (literally means under a tree). The chicken rice ball here is flavourful and packs a punch in spite of it's ping pong ball size. It is soft and slightly sticky, and if you cannot use a chopstick to pick it up, poke right through. If your mouth cannot fit a ball at one time, halve to form hemispheres instead. Ord
