Kedai Makanan Sinki, Dengkil, Selangor

It's been awhile since i last updated this blog and it was because i was busy at work and wasn't in the country. So now that i'm back for some days off, the adventure bug bit, and my family and i found ourselves enjoying lunch at Dengkil- a random detour from Putrajaya.

Walking towards the eatery.

I was not familiar with Dengkil but i was told that there are Chinese restaurants in the area. About half an hour from KL via MEX highway, Dengkil is a simple town with an old charm. Cruising down the road, i cannot but feel nostalgic- memories of other little towns that i passed through on my way to my university, and day trips with family and friends came to mind. Perhaps, being in the working life was the trigger.

Sandwiched between shops lies this popular restaurant.

I Googled and this restaurant appeared on the first page. We decided to give this a try. My dad seemed to recall being at this restaurant many, many years back and he mentioned that the food here is good. We parked by the roadside and entered the eatery just almost after lunch hour. The other customers completed their lunches and ours arrived quick. Though the eatery appeared old, i was pleasantly surprised to see it rated 'A'. The walls are proudly decorated with photographs of famous figures visiting the restaurant, Chinese wordings (which i couldn't read) and food.

Deep Fried Fish in Spicy Sauce was delectable! The fish was fresh, its skin crispy, and i took my time scrapping meat to its bones. But what was tastier was its sauce- garnished with chilies and garlic, spicy with just the right amount of saltiness. Mixing the sauce with rice was an ideal combination. Recommended. Almost every other table and blog had this in their order too, which was no surprise.

Spring Roll Lobak 'meat roll' was another signature dish. I wasn't crazy about the fillings (it was well flavoured but slightly cold) of this lobak but i was impressed by the idea of using spring roll to wrap them. The fried spring roll added that crunchy factor to its otherwise moist skin. Good as a starter.

One of my favourite styles of Mee Hoon- Kau Yuk Mee Hoon, this dish of noodles tasted better than it looks. It looked pale but as soon as i sank my teeth, i was slurping and going for seconds. It wasn't as salty and it did not leave that sticky, after-meal feeling like other restaurants do, which were plus points. My only comment would be that it was rather oily. Recommended.

Lunch was satisfying. Price was reasonable.

This restaurant intrigued me and opens the door for more exploration to what has been quietly hidden in Dengkil.

What? Fish and noodles.
