Bukit Kledang, Perak

Image
To say the least, i did not expect my Bukit Kledang hiking adventure to be as what i did. It was on a Saturday my friends and i embarked on the journey towards the hill, at quarter past six in the morning. We arrived at the designated car park and began our early morning walk up the hill at 6.50 am. The sun was still below the horizon and the surrounding was dark. A single torchlight led the way for us as we started our attempt to conquer the hill. It was a Saturday morning and as expected, there were other people trailing up and down the hill. Mostly, they were elderly people- this showed their stamina and how they stay healthy. Along the way at the early stage of our hike, there are restrooms available and gazebos for you to rest. The Sun peeking through the clouds. Watching the township blanketed by the clouds; admiring the scenic view. Bukit Kledang is located at Menglembu township and is popular with Ipoh folks. There are several trails to consider when hiking up the hill. Since i

Kedai Kopi New Tien Tien, Perak

One of our (my friends and i) preferred dinner locations outside university is the Kedai Kopi New Tien Tien. We have frequented this restaurant since Foundation years, and i felt inclined to present this restaurant in this blog. What i like most about the food in this restaurant is their noodle. The 'Wah Tan Hor' or Cantonese-style Kuay Teow is one to be reckoned with. The gravy is flavourful- not too starchy and i can taste the egg, along with its noodle 'kuay teow', pork slices, prawn, fish cake slices and vegetable. At the end of my dinner pleasure, my plate would be sparkling clean. Dripping saliva. Another personal favourite is the Fried 'Loh Shu Fan'. It is tasty and surely satisfying- sometimes leaving you wanting for more. If you want something spicy, try the 'Sambal' Fried 'Loh Shu Fan'. Here you go. There are other noodle dishes that are worth trying. One here is the Singaporean Fried 'Mee Hoon'. Served with egg

Kek Lok Tong Cave Temple, Ipoh, Perak

The third and final stop of our cave-y day trip led us to a religious path, a temple. I was the only one who did not explore the cave temple due to a university event in the past. Now i do. I remembered then, in my brief time at the cave temple, the beauty and serenity surrounding it. There is something about caves that feels sacred, tranquil and peaceful. I went there today, after a tiring Gua Tempurung expedition and lunch. The way in to the cave temple passes through neighbourhood. The opening of the cave and the statue of the Goddess of Mercy welcomed us at the entrance. At the sides of the stairs into the cave temple are decorated with wood and rock carvings. We walked inside the cave temple; then proceeded further in where a Chinese style garden enthralled. Entering the cave temple. Nature's artwork. There are fishes and turtles in the pond, and in another had blossoming lotus at its surface. We were there almost evening and we could see people exercising or jogging.

Sun Yeong Wai Restaurant, Ipoh, Perak

Hunger struck the nine lives! After an exhausting expedition in Gua Tempurung, we headed towards Ipoh for lunch- if eating at 3 is considered lunch. Recommended by my friend, it was my third time there as the first two were unsuccessful attempts. We ordered what the restaurant is famous for- roast duck. It comes in two flavours: original and smoked. Personally, i liked the original but my friend preferred the latter. Really, it depends on your preferences, so we ordered a quarter of each. The roast duck was flavourful and succulent. Another recommended dish was the roast pork or 'siew yok'- i especially liked the crispy skin of the pork and the thick, fatty layer sandwiched in between. Served with rice, the nine of us silently devoured lunch- filling our stomach and replenishing our strengths to chat afterward. Yummy roast duck. And delectable roast pork! And to the last stop of the day. What? Roast duck and pork Where? Sun Yeong Wai Restaurant, Jalan Sri Ampang,

The Grand Tour, Gua Tempurung, Perak

I see the road sign to Gua Tempurung every time i exit at the Gopeng toll station- and always moving in the opposite direction. Finally, i followed its direction, with a group of friends, and experienced caving on a whole new level. We started our journey towards the cave at 8 in the morning from Tronoh and arrived at its main entrance minutes before 9. Quickly, we went to purchase our entrance tickets. As planned, we bought the Tour 4 package, the Grand Tour, at RM 22 per adult. It is said to be the most challenging amongst the other tours, dry and wet at the same time, and consumes about three and a half hour. Hyped for the challenge, we had to wait patiently in line for our turn of fun-ness outside the cave. When we were called in, adrenaline started pumping. All geared up for the challenge! The first part was a dry tour in the cave- walking on its designated pathways and admiring the beauty of nature. Here is where your eyes play tricks and your imagination runs free- mine
