Ben & Nick's Diner, Subang Jaya, Selangor

My friend, J had been introducing this place to us many times but only recently did we visit this diner. Reason was, it was far for us. Until i thought, what is adventure without traveling the distance?

We were famished upon arriving at this little, cozy diner. Stepping inside, i felt an immediate sense of 'homeyness'. The diner exudes a calm, soothing and relaxing ambiance. Each table was lit with a mini lamp, toning down the evening and embracing the cool night. The inside of the diner was full (or was not able to fit five of us) so we sat outside, and began flipping through the menu while my friend mentioned some of his personal recommendations. We were there for dinner.

Aglio Olio Chicken (top)/beef (below) (RM 16.90). Highly suggested by my friend, i did not order this because of my previous experiences with Aglio Olio- they were so spicy i sweated while eating! However, i tried some from them, and here, it was definitely less spicy. If pasta is your choice of meal, you can try this. It is good that you can mix and match to your liking, such as the type of pasta, the flavour and the choice of meat at varying prices.

Fish and Chips (RM 13.90) ordered by another friend. Appearance-wise, it looked golden-brown. I did not try.

Combo Blanket at RM 20.90. Similar to wrap or tortilla, my friend's order came half chicken, half beef. He mentioned that the filling of the wrap was slightly dry. I did not try.

I had Wild Mushroom Soup as a starter to warm my stomach. Taking the first scoop, i instantly felt the fluffiness, that i was pleasantly surprised to even use this adjective to describe. It felt really soft and foamy, like there were bubbles floating on my tongue, and then dissolved. Beyond this unique texture, this soup has good natural taste and flavour. Mushroom lovers, like me, will thoroughly enjoy this bowl of soup. It comes with a slice of garlic butter bread that was crispy and crunchy. This heartfelt bowl comes at RM 6.90.

My main course was the Cajun Chicken. Arriving at our table looking simple and innocent, this boneless chicken thigh was deliciously marinated and the meat was tender. My knife could easily cut through. The sauce on the chicken was aromatic and the flavour dances in my mouth. As for the two sides, the coleslaw was ordinary, and even with a separate sauce, the mashed potato was rather plain- so i believe these were to help in balancing the heavy flavours of the chicken. Having said that, this ideally sized portion, at RM 15.90, was, overall, satisfying.

For drinks, we had Iced Lemon Tea (RM 3.90), Mango and Strawberry Juices (RM 4.90 each).

One thing i truly enjoy about this diner is the homey feel- in their food, like it was stamped with sincerity, and its decor . A nice place to sit and catch up with friends (definitely). The service was pleasant and our food came fast. Worth a visit. We were told that lunch sets will be devised soon, so perhaps my other visit would be during the lunch hour then?
