Gusta Cafe, Soho Suites, KL

Image
When my friend mentioned about Gusta Cafe, i had no knowledge of this eatery: where it is or what it serves. With a little digging, i realized that it is located just a few blocks from where i work and it serves Western and Nepalese cuisines. Nepalese cuisine instantly caught our attention because even as foodies, we seldom (or actually, never) hear of this in the Malaysian market, and it definitely piqued our interest. Nestled in Soho Suites KLCC, it was rather tricky to find this humble eatery. We had to register at the lobby before being allowed in and up the elevator. There was no indication of the eatery on our way to the place. However, Shyam (the Founder) enlightened us that there have been talks with the building management for proper advertising and access to this eatery. Upon entering, we were greeted by the friendly workers who showed us to a table. The interior was simple but if weather permits, i would enjoy the view by the pool outside. It was also interesting to ...

Opium Changkat Bukit Bintang, KL

Image
How coincident? My sister mentioned Opium and the very next day, my friend suggested this eatery for a meet up. Plus, he got a 40% discount voucher so that sealed the deal- and we made reservation. When i heard of the name of this eatery, my first thought was 'what?!'. I got my head around it and then realized the connection with the theme so prominently portrayed. Catchy, definitely. Stepping in brought me back in time, the old China time that i used to watch on TV. The ambiance was relaxing, the decor exuded charm. I especially like the wine cellar. Oh, the drunken master. The waiters were friendly, and oddly, two of them looked alike that we thought we ordered from the same person. Partly air conditioned indoor and open air outside, we decided to sit inside where it was cooler. Curry Spaghettini (RM 32) was rich with flavour. Interesting blend of curry and pasta, with well made salmon steak. Duck Noodle (RM 28) tasted authentic with herbs. J...

Monte's Restaurant and Wine Bar, Bangsar Shopping Center, KL

Image
I was surfing the net for a place to dine in Bangsar because i know that Bangsar has good food, but which exactly, and i don't frequent Bangsar, which was all the more reason to bring my family for this exploration. One of the lists placed Monte's in the top 10 with good overall review. I looked further in their website and the menu with price listing excited (and prepared) me. I had in mind what i would order (but it wasn't available on our visit). I went to BSC once but never realized the existence of this eatery, tucked at one of the corners. We found our way to the restaurant and was greeted by a friendly waiter. His name is Randy. I made a reservation but i'm sure they do have space for walk in because the space is large. I liked the ambiance of the eatery too. Dark but not too dark that you may accidently knock a table or chair, cushioned chair and pretty decor. I was also impressed by the awards proudly displayed near the entrance- in a way, it raised my bar...

d'Spice Restaurant, KL

Image
The recent VibeHero event brought me back to BB Park, for another multi-cuisine dinner. I braved the Friday rush hour traffic and arrived at the venue almost 8pm. It was my first time into d'Spice Restaurant- in my previous two visits to BB Park, i only see the inside from the outside of this eatery. As i walked in, i immediately noticed the chalkboard next to the bar colourfully written the signature dishes, operating hours and some other promotion. The open-air with fan concept makes for a laidback attitude of the eatery. Our tables were neatly arranged, so i took a seat and enjoyed the night. While waiting for the rest of the people to come, we chatted and i had Pineapple Juice. It was good to know the people from the team better. Also, this time, i got to see more familiar faces (other bloggers who attended VibeHero events previously- and i should have taken a photo with them). I hope we do meet again in other future events.  The Oreo Chocolate Blended on the left ...

Marquee Lounge, KL

Image
I was thrilled to be invited to VibeHero 's second event at Marquee Lounge in BB Park, KL last Thursday. I saw the menu and i was surprised by the range of food/cuisine i was going to have for dinner. But what surprised me more upon my arrival was the venue that houses the dinner i was about to attend- as its name suggests, a lounge. I went in, ordered a Soda (again, i drove) and chilled at the cushioned sofa with the team while more food enthusiasts/ambassadors came. The low lit area makes for good, relaxing atmosphere, but an even more suitable nightlife spot with the spacious dance floor and music. Soon after, we moved to near the bar where they had set up a long dinner table for us, and a side table for food photography. Good service at this Lounge too. Arranged neatly on the table, with a welcoming note. BBQ Chicken Potato Skins- the perfect starter. The potato skin was crispy and flavourful, matching the equally tasty BBQ chicken and homemade coleslaw toppings. I...

Brotzeit Bar and Restaurant, Sunway Pyramid, Selangor

Image
I was scrolling through Groupon then i stumbled upon this bar/restaurant. I've read this eatery in a magazine. It is one of the top, relatively new restaurants to open in Malaysia, with great reviews of its food and concept. With the promotion and my turn to treat, i chose Brotzeit German Bier Bar and Restaurant at Sunway Pyramid as my choice. My family and i were all in, ready for a pork feast! The second of its kind here in Malaysia (the first opened in Mid Valley Megamall), Brotzeit offers Bavarian cuisine and an array of premium beers. We made a lunch reservation and arrived with the company of many other customers also using their vouchers. Seated inside at the cozy, cushioned and air-conditioned area of the restaurant- with the menu already designed during the purchase of this deal, because it was during the day, i did not feel much of the bar-atmosphere, though the elements were there. Nevertheless, the setting is simple but contemporary; greeting us with its sleek, woo...
