Gusta Cafe, Soho Suites, KL
When my friend mentioned about Gusta Cafe, i had no knowledge of this eatery: where it is or what it serves. With a little digging, i realized that it is located just a few blocks from where i work and it serves Western and Nepalese cuisines. Nepalese cuisine instantly caught our attention because even as foodies, we seldom (or actually, never) hear of this in the Malaysian market, and it definitely piqued our interest.
Nestled in Soho Suites KLCC, it was rather tricky to find this humble eatery. We had to register at the lobby before being allowed in and up the elevator. There was no indication of the eatery on our way to the place. However, Shyam (the Founder) enlightened us that there have been talks with the building management for proper advertising and access to this eatery.
Upon entering, we were greeted by the friendly workers who showed us to a table. The interior was simple but if weather permits, i would enjoy the view by the pool outside. It was also interesting to see an open kitchen by the counter- we could hear the sizzle after we placed our order.
To satisfy our Nepalese cuisine curiosity, we had the momo, which is the Nepali dumpling, made in two styles: steamed and chili, as seen in the pictures below (frankly, i didn't know about such dumpling until now; the name sure sounds cutely catchy). Undeniably, they were our favourite of the night! The chicken fillings were well flavoured and the skin had just enough thickness to not easily break or be too chewy. It was like murtabak in xiao long bao. Another plus point was the Nepalese Chutney (with spices from Nepal; a "secret recipe" as Shyam joked) that you should dip in and eat together. The flavours just danced in my mouth.

Creamy Carbonara Spaghetti with Latte. The egg made for special appearance on an otherwise common pasta dish. The spaghetti sauce was sweet-ish, definitely creamy with cheese, and had chicken ham slices.
I had the Gusta Grilled Chicken Chop (house specialty) with Iced Chocolate (i think the sizzle was from my piece of meat). The chicken chop was tender and went well with its accompanying sauce. Another yum on the plate was the mashed potatoes. The texture was smooth; creamy with a little sweetness. I wasn't fond of the corn and the vegetable side was ordinary.
To end the night, we had the Crazy Nut dessert, which came like a party in a bowl.
Shyam mentioned that this eatery opened just ten days from our visit and have been receiving positive response. They also cater to takeaways and delivery, especially during lunch with the many surrounding offices. I applaud the enthusiasm behind the people that run this eatery; only less than a month yet already with plans for the future.
Now that i have tasted Nepalese cuisine, i would like to explore the other Nepali food in their menu. A great introduction to a cuisine not many would have known or tried here.
"Can i have that last piece of momo," and there it went, in my one mouthful.
