Marquee Lounge, KL

I was thrilled to be invited to VibeHero's second event at Marquee Lounge in BB Park, KL last Thursday. I saw the menu and i was surprised by the range of food/cuisine i was going to have for dinner. But what surprised me more upon my arrival was the venue that houses the dinner i was about to attend- as its name suggests, a lounge.

I went in, ordered a Soda (again, i drove) and chilled at the cushioned sofa with the team while more food enthusiasts/ambassadors came. The low lit area makes for good, relaxing atmosphere, but an even more suitable nightlife spot with the spacious dance floor and music. Soon after, we moved to near the bar where they had set up a long dinner table for us, and a side table for food photography. Good service at this Lounge too.

Arranged neatly on the table, with a welcoming note.

BBQ Chicken Potato Skins- the perfect starter. The potato skin was crispy and flavourful, matching the equally tasty BBQ chicken and homemade coleslaw toppings. I would love to have more! Recommended.

Avomela Salad, however, was ordinary. It was a mixture of lettuce, avocados, nuts and apples with tangerine dressing.

The next on the menu were the main dishes and they were local cuisine. It would be a lie if i'd said i wasn't skeptical about it- these local dishes are some of my favourites.

The Nasi Lemak caught me by surprise- i was expecting white fragrant rice and thought 'how fancy can a nasi lemak be'? It came prettily decorated and arranged on the plate. I liked how the 'jantung pisang' (Banana flower) was creatively used as the bowl for the chicken rendang. The rice was aromatic from the coconut milk and pandan (so the greenish colour). Though the chicken rendang was rather tough, i enjoyed the richness of the curry mixed with my rice. Served also with sambal, kangkong, egg, fried anchovies and nuts.

Hainanese Chicken Chop was another dish to remember, though the chicken verged on being too salty. I liked the sweet and sour flavour of the tomato sauce.

I felt the Sarawak Laksa was the least of my favourite among the local dishes that night. The gravy was milky, fragrant and thick but it lacked the 'oomph' to make it memorable.

Tommy Gun Burger was visually unique- French toast with beef patty served with brown sauce, fries and salad. However, i didn't like the French toast- the bread was too thick and tough, and not well prepared. I have to credit the patty though; it was good.

Mystery Box Burger- i didn't know there was a story behind this mysterious dish: 'a patty recipe so secretive, we actually had to lock it away in a safe deposit' (adapted from the menu). No wonder the interesting unwrapping of the paper over the burger. Overall, i enjoyed this burger more than the above. Equally good patty, i thought the chicken patty would do more with more onions and mushroom sauce.

By this time, our stomachs were full. Having said that, i enjoyed this pizza the more and took two pieces of it- Pizza Marinara. Served with squid, mussels and prawns on top of thin pizza bread.

Pizza Diavola was the other pizza. Apart from the delicious toppings, i enjoyed the thin pizza bread- did i not mention?

Milanese was the only pasta dish that night. It was tasty; unfortunately, it was forgettable.

From Malaysian to Western food, all in one dinner and all in one place, i enjoyed the food, had a great time with the team and met new people. I do feel a bit of a regret for not ordering alcoholic drinks- they mentioned the 'Sex on the Beach' was good (and the variety of cocktails to choose from). May be, next time?

I also checked that there are events going on at Marquee Lounge from time to time. Check their Facebook page for any.
