d'Spice Restaurant, KL

The recent VibeHero event brought me back to BB Park, for another multi-cuisine dinner.

I braved the Friday rush hour traffic and arrived at the venue almost 8pm. It was my first time into d'Spice Restaurant- in my previous two visits to BB Park, i only see the inside from the outside of this eatery. As i walked in, i immediately noticed the chalkboard next to the bar colourfully written the signature dishes, operating hours and some other promotion. The open-air with fan concept makes for a laidback attitude of the eatery. Our tables were neatly arranged, so i took a seat and enjoyed the night.

While waiting for the rest of the people to come, we chatted and i had Pineapple Juice. It was good to know the people from the team better. Also, this time, i got to see more familiar faces (other bloggers who attended VibeHero events previously- and i should have taken a photo with them). I hope we do meet again in other future events.
The Oreo Chocolate Blended on the left accompanied me throughout dinner. It was very chocolatey.

Dinner began with starters: Mix Canapes, which are a Chef's Favourite, Shrimp Salad and Smoked Salmon Salad. For the Mix Canapes, we were served with four different toppings on top of chip-sized breads: smoked salmon, cheese and ham, tuna and caviar, and prawn. Good as a finger food that i could take it entirely into my mouth at one go. I preferred the prawn, and cheese and ham toppings. The prawn was well cooked and flavoured. The taste of the tuna and caviar was overpowering to me and i didn't fancy the smoked salmon. Likewise, i favoured the Shrimp Salad more than the Smoked Salmon Salad for the same reason, though the salad base is actually similar to both.

Local food served first and needing no further introduction is this Nasi Lemak with Chicken Rendang, Sambal, Egg, Fried Anchovies, Peanut, Pickle and Crackers. I enjoyed the chicken rendang; the chicken was cooked tender, not too spicy and the flavour of the rendang was delicious. Overall, a typical Malaysian dish that stays true to its origin.

On the menu, this caught my attention: Lamb Shank with Biryani Rice, and i was looking forward to it. However, it did not live up to my expectations. The lamb shank was dry and tough. I liked the biryani rice and i thought the biryani rice with chicken rendang (from the nasi lemak dish above) makes for a good combination too!

One of the specialties of this eatery: Organic Rib Eye Steak. The good: i enjoyed the gravy to go with the meat and the crispy fried mushroom. The not-so-good: the meat was rather tough.

I enjoyed this specialty more: Australian Waghu Beef Ribs. The meat was tasty. The fries that came with it was good too.

I still find pizzas a challenging object for photography. This may look plain and ordinary, but rest assured that this pizza dish was the best of the night- and my section of the table would concur with me. Came hot from the kitchen, the pizza was oozing with cheese and the flavours of the toppings like the chicken pepperoni and capsicums were good.

Ending the night with desserts, we had Tiramisu and Chocolate Brownies. The Tiramisu came prettily presented with flowers at its side but it was okay. The Chocolate Brownies came with ice cream and caramelized jackfruit. I thought the combination was a little unique. I could do with the brownies and ice cream alone but the caramelized jackfruit was really sweet. Having said that, the caramelized jackfruit was one i have not tasted at other eateries so it was a good experience.

A good place to dine, and if you need a place to chat, this place might work after 10pm. There were live shows of dances and singing in front of the eatery and sometimes, they were too loud.
