1919 Restaurant and Gallery, Ipoh, Perak
We stumbled upon this restaurant in the Internet; it's a place we have passed by but never once stopped. Not that it is far off the main road, nor that it is in a secluded neighbourhood. It was rated fairly well, with some interesting reviews. So after hunting for JJ Cakes and Swiss Roll's Swiss Rolls, we headed towards this restaurant near Tesco, Ipoh for a Friday dinner.
I expected the crowd to be less since it was a weekday- and i was hungry. But there were a few tables occupied, luckily already dining. Even almost at the end of our dinner, we saw a family just coming in. Late dinner i suppose? I can imagine that on weekends, this place will be crowded.
We were seated quick and the waitress, knowing it was our first, gave good recommendations. While waiting, i explored the restaurant, or the gallery that comes with it. Walking into the restaurant, i was amused by its decor. It wasn't like any ordinary Chinese restaurant. At the far end, there was a bar with a bartender. On the walls were photographs of scenery. At the side was a collection of antique items that reminded me of a Peranakan house. The restaurant was not very bright. The tables and chairs were wooden and marble ones respectively. I continued to look around until dinner was served.
The Minced Meat Homemade Tofu was delicious (RM8, small). It was a signature dish, one of the recommendations by the waitress. The tofu appeared slightly greenish and tasted better than usual. The minced meat was cooked with sauce, providing enough saltiness to complement this dish. For small portion, this is large enough to share.
The Pineapple Fried Rice (RM8, small) was a dish reviewed over the Internet. Unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectations. I was inclined to order this also because it comes in a pineapple and i was looking for something filling- rice. It tasted average.
The Fried Eggplant/Brinjal (RM8, small) was the other dish recommended by the waitress and it was tasty. For one who doesn't eat eggplant, i took this. The other Fried Eggplant i had was in Ijok but unlike that, this was cut into thin strips. Felt like i was eating potatoes. I can imagine this as a finger food, eating only this while watching a movie. Eggplant is good for health, but (being health conscious awhile) i learned that fried in oil isn't the same as it absorbs the oil. Guilty pleasure.
Happy, filled stomach, we proceeded to the Lotus Five Star Cinema in Ipoh for an action-packed round of GI Joe: Retaliation.

Charges 165 for small portion of bittergord soup, plain slice fish, sweet and sour chicken and plain Kai lan. Avoid at all cost
ReplyDeleteHi Noel. Thanks for reading. That's really expensive! I hope you did complain to the owner so they can be notified and adjusted accordingly.
