Fat Fook Inn, Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur

Image
Occupying an arc on a circular shoplet in Mont Kiara, this small but homey eatery serving Chinese cuisine caught my attention. Neighbouring its sister (Fat Fish), i was quickly welcomed by the warmth of its decor. Service was friendly and attentive too; however i felt some were a little shy probably being junior. That said, the senior waitress that attended to us knew the menu by heart, recommending and taking in our requests, and mentally wrote our order. Kudos! It took us awhile to flip through the pages of menu though. Plates and bowls on wall. Totally Instaworthy! Notice the baby fishes following the parents? We had the shredded chicken with jellyfish under Appetizer section. The jellyfish was springy and thick. The shredded chicken lent a meaty texture. It was re(fresh)ing with a nutty taste. Surprisingly not in the menu (the waitress mentioned it was an old menu item but can be ordeded; i saw this online), the pumpkin with buttermilk was a winning dish. Sweet thin...

Opium Changkat Bukit Bintang, KL

Image
How coincident? My sister mentioned Opium and the very next day, my friend suggested this eatery for a meet up. Plus, he got a 40% discount voucher so that sealed the deal- and we made reservation. When i heard of the name of this eatery, my first thought was 'what?!'. I got my head around it and then realized the connection with the theme so prominently portrayed. Catchy, definitely. Stepping in brought me back in time, the old China time that i used to watch on TV. The ambiance was relaxing, the decor exuded charm. I especially like the wine cellar. Oh, the drunken master. The waiters were friendly, and oddly, two of them looked alike that we thought we ordered from the same person. Partly air conditioned indoor and open air outside, we decided to sit inside where it was cooler. Curry Spaghettini (RM 32) was rich with flavour. Interesting blend of curry and pasta, with well made salmon steak. Duck Noodle (RM 28) tasted authentic with herbs. J...

Alor Akar Seafood Restaurant, Kuantan, Pahang

Image
Walking into the crowded restaurant on a Saturday night, i saw that many tables had not eaten- and i was hungry. This restaurant is one of the popular restaurants in Kuantan; simple looking but busy with people moving around almost constantly. We were seated then quick to be asked for drinks- we wanted sugar cane but it was sold out by then, so we settled for the thirst quenching and sweet wheatgrass. There were boards on the wall with photographs of their signature dishes- we used them as reference and also looked out for what other customers ordered. Dinner was served not long after- table by table until it was our turn. Beggar Chicken. Wrapped in foil, the chicken was cooked until soft and the meat could easily detach from the bones. The strength of this dish, however, was the herbal gravy- or soup, in it. It was aromatic with strong herbs flavour and it surely felt nutritious. No wonder why this dish's photograph was on the board. Taufu with Salted Fish. At first bit...

Restoran Kam Kitchen, Cheras, KL

Image
My mom actually Google-d for recommended restaurants nearby and she discovered this place in Cheras. We decided to try, putting our adventure caps on. The eatery sits slightly off the main road but despite it being somewhat hidden, it was crowded with people that we had to sit outside, without the air-conditioning (my mom called earlier and the recipient told her it was not necessary to book. Lesson learned: just book). We were then entertained by the waiter who we later knew is the brother of the chef. He possessed good public relation skill, recommending and taking our orders down cheerfully. Not long after, we moved inside- and breathed the cool air. The interior was plain but sufficient in design. Out came this Pumpkin Beancurd 'Taufu' (RM 12). It was special, especially with the unique pairing of these two ingredients, and it felt healthy. The 'taufu' was ok and the pumpkin sauce could make do with a little more flavour. Generally, this dish tasted light. Or...

1919 Restaurant and Gallery, Ipoh, Perak

Image
We stumbled upon this restaurant in the Internet; it's a place we have passed by but never once stopped. Not that it is far off the main road, nor that it is in a secluded neighbourhood. It was rated fairly well, with some interesting reviews. So after hunting for JJ Cakes and Swiss Roll's Swiss Rolls, we headed towards this restaurant near Tesco, Ipoh for a Friday dinner.   I expected the crowd to be less since it was a weekday- and i was hungry. But there were a few tables occupied, luckily already dining. Even almost at the end of our dinner, we saw a family just coming in. Late dinner i suppose? I can imagine that on weekends, this place will be crowded. Pretty decorations. We were seated quick and the waitress, knowing it was our first, gave good recommendations. While waiting, i explored the restaurant, or the gallery that comes with it. Walking into the restaurant, i was amused by its decor. It wasn't like any ordinary Chinese restaurant. At the far en...
