Restaurant Mei Six Hin, Prima Sri Gombak, Selangor

The first time i saw this restaurant was when we were food hunting around Prima Sri Gombak. We did not try this restaurant then because it was fully occupied. I was not in KL when my family visited this restaurant the second time, and i gathered from the way they spoke about the restaurant that dinner was good, one in particular was the 'to fu kan' which was compared to my personal favourite at Seri Kembangan. Another was the prawn curry in coconut. In the third time, i was around and to say the least, my expectation was met with their recommendation.

We were there on a Sunday at 7pm, before the crowd settled in. While my parents were ordering some favourites from my family's previous experience and some recommendations from the owner, i noticed the restaurant was decorated with photos of food and international celebrities. Service was quick and our dishes were served.

From the kitchen was this Peanut Pork Ribs, recommended by the owner. This dish was truly unique. The juicy pork ribs were coated with peanut butter-like sauce that created a grainy texture, with sweetness and saltiness well balanced. I only had one piece that night, but one was enough to set me excited for this dinner. Recommended.

Assorted Vegetables with Mushrooms was alright.

This was the best of the night! Prawn Curry in Coconut is highly recommended and should be in your order list. The curry was rich with flavour and when mixed with rice and eaten, the flavours just bounced in my mouth. Lived to my expectation and really appetizing, the coconut was emptied of gravy at the end of dinner. The coconut presentation was eye-candy on the table. RM 22 for small, it was enough for seven of us.

The 'to fu kan', however, did not meet my expectation after being well recommended by my family (they agreed that this time, this soup was not as good as they had previously). It was average. In this bowl of soup, i found strips of 'to fu', crab meat and mushrooms, and it was different than what i had in mind of a 'to fu kan'.

We needed to preorder this Salted Baked Fish, RM 36, and it was worth the effort. This dish was a close second to the Prawn Curry. As its name suggests, the fish was covered in salt outside and when dived in to reach for the flesh, it was fresh and tasty. The fish was standing upright. Recommended.

In another visit, we had the Nyonya style fish. The sauce was sourish and spicy and the fish was fresh. Having both this dish and the Prawn Curry in Coconut on the table was not ideal- both curry base and unfortunately, putting this up against that was unfair.
Another recommendation by the owner was this Crab Meat-Egg Fried Yee Mee Noodles, RM 20. It was special but average. The noodles were rather rubbery to chew.

I ended my dinner with a glass of Chinese tea. This restaurant offered special and unique dishes with great taste that surely left me wanting to try more and visit again. As the lady owner said, 'we serve delicious food. If it is not delicious, it will not be on our menu'. She said this when we asked her to recommend.

Though she was boasting, i could see why.
