Restoran Sate Kajang Haji Samuri, Kajang, Selangor
Say 'sate' and Sate Kajang comes to mind. Kajang is located not very far from KL, about thirty minutes drive. I have tried sate from various shops within and outside KL, and i enjoy gobbling down the bite-size meat of every stick. It is one of the many Malaysian foods that i truly favour and definitely will recommend to travelers visiting this country. Sate, to a certain extent can be described visually like a mini kebab, is cooked over charcoal fire, is meaty, chunky, fatty, sweet, salty, and is usually eaten with peanut sauce 'kuah kacang'. Kajang is popular with sate and i wouldn't disapprove. Particularly the mega chain Restoran Sate Kajang Haji Samuri- its building obvious along the main road in Kajang, has made its mark as a representation of the famous Sate Kajang.
My family and i arrived at the restaurant and quickly found a table at the air-conditioned section (there's an open air section near the counters and a balcony section above). Once seated, we decided on our orders before going to the counter to place them. Depending on the crowd, our dinner was served rather quick.

Chicken sate with peanut sauce, rice 'nasi empit' and cucumber slices. What i like most here is the peanut sauce. Sometimes, i could feel like i'm drinking the sauce instead of dipping my sate into it to add flavour. The peanut may be small in size and little in quantity, but sufficient to have that crunchy and smooth balance of texture. You can ask for more sauce- i did as my first bowl of sauce was swept clean. I usually prefer my sate sticks to come with little fats on them, though unhealthy and i know to limit consumption, i like the bouncy texture and extra sweetness. The rice is plain, good to keep taste from overpowering the senses. By just eating sate can make you full, so be warned.
This restaurant is decorated with antique items such as iron and typewriters, and the walls are decorated with old photographs in black and white and paintings. More than just a sate experience?
Some counters visible. Guests can see how the sate is prepared and cooked.
Apart from sate, here offers other local dishes as well such as Nasi Goreng Kampung, Nasi Ayam, Nasi Goreng Pattaya and Nasi Goreng Cina. The sate can be added as a side ingredient to these dishes, on your own. Creative?
It is no wonder this restaurant has drawn many customers, sate being the highlight. There are several branches of this restaurant but i like it here and i am to return in my next visit to Kajang. You should make this place a stop during your visit to Kajang too or when passing by it.

had dinner at Sate Haji Samuri main outlet in Kajang and it was horrible. the meat was likely mass-produced, frozen for days & never thawed properly before it was cooked. the meat was lumpy and not crispy as it should had been. the meat stucked hard on the stick and probably easier to eat a raw carrot. i regretted not going to the smaller outlets which had better reviews vs. this main outlet housed in a massive complex that can serve upwards of 1000 customers.
ReplyDeleteHi nat, thanks for your comment on this post. I'm sorry you had a terrible experience at this eatery and did not enjoy it as much as i did or as mentioned in this post. your comment was mostly on the meat and i have to agree sometimes that the meat was cold and hard. but what i like most here is the sate gravy.
