Yoke Heng Restaurant, Seri Kembangan, Selangor

For Sunday brunch, my dad suggested a restaurant and when i heard it was in Seri Kembangan, my first reaction was, 'so far?' (i was hungry at that time too). I'm glad they ignored my comment and decided to go anyway. Travel for good food.

It was actually my dad's first time at the restaurant too, so finding the restaurant was challenging. On the same row as East of Highway Restaurant, clearly seen from the main road, we found ourselves into the just-opened restaurant, literally (opens at 10.30am, we were there around 10.45am). We were seated quick, the crowd had yet come, and placed our orders. Service was quick and soon, our stomachs were filled.

The main reason we were there was this: Claypot Loh Shu Fan. I didn't expect it to appear like Loh Mee or come soupy. Our waiter recommended us to add vinegar. It has a unique flavour, the soup, a blend of sweetness and saltiness, and slightly sourish because of the vinegar, with egg, meat and fried onions. The noodles, the 'loh shu fan' was ordinary. To be frank, this was rather overrated. Good, but it didn't blow my socks off.

Stir Fry La La was okay. Like the above, it didn't wow me.

This one...

... did. This Honey Pork Ribs, wrapped in foil, was delicious. Glazed sufficiently to add flavour, a sticky texture, plus the layer of fat, this was a guilty pleasure for brunch. I wished i had more.

Yam Basket 'Fatt Put'. Yam was good, the fillings were alright.

Another highlight of the meal is this Tiger Prawn Noodles. Thinking back the flavours of this dish's gravy makes me salivate. The freshness of prawns truly brought out and add flavour to the gravy. The soaked 'wan tan mee' noodles in the gravy was delicious- much could be said to the fried, still crispy ones too. Priciest dish on the table but satisfying. Next to it is a plate of Fried Rice- simple and plain. Not much flavours, good to balance with other heavier (better) ones.

Some hits, some misses, this restaurant does have something special and different. And a tryout was good experience.
